Addicted to Blame

(Apologies to Robert Palmer)

Lights are on, but nobody’s home
No one’s mind is still their own
Summer’s hot, getting hotter
Buildings melt, low on water
Can’t sleep, nothing to eat
No doubt we’re in too deep
Throat’s tight, can’t breathe
A patsy is what we need

You like to think you’re immune to the stuff
But in truth you can’t get enough
You know you’re gonna have to face it
You’re addicted to blame

Racism lout supremacy
The Klan and NRA
Had another mass murder today
Video games and immigrants
Take the unjust heat
Run through the jungle?
They’ll tax your feet.

They like to think they’re immune to the stuff
But in truth they can’t get enough
We know they’re gonna have to face it
They’re addicted to blame

Lights are on but nobody’s home
No one’s mind is still their own
Thoughts and prayers
Are at best bit players
This country’s gonna be broke
Before enough of us are finally woke.

We love to think we’re immune to the stuff
Sad but true we can’t get enough
We might as well face it
We’re addicted to blame
